Volunteer Position Descriptions
Greeter Station Responsibilities
Greeters will be responsible for checking ID’s and issuing appropriate
wristbands, ensuring that Participants have read the Survival Guide, educating
Participants about event principals/rules, and “greeting”.
Greeter Coordinator
Pre-event Duties
Join the event planning Google Group
Brief Event Organizer at least bi-weekly
Monitor greeter shift schedule
Solicit volunteers
Inventory supplies & submit order for additional supplies to Event Manager at
least 45 days prior to the event
During Event Duties
Arrange for Greeter supplies to be transported to event site
Arrange for Greeter station to be set up
Make sure that Greeter Leads are trained in proper procedures
Monitor that Greeter Leads are properly training Greeter volunteers
Monitor greeter station on an as needed basis
Check with Greeter Leads to make sure shifts are being adequately covered
Arrange for supplies at greeter to be secured when gate is closed
Post-event Duties
Arrange for supplies to be packed up and transported to designated storage (the
Coordinator may store bins at their home or at the Storm Shelter)
Email a summary of problems, concerns, successes, suggestions regarding Greeter
station to Event Manager
Greeter Leads
During Event Duties
Make sure that Greeter volunteers are properly trained in Greeter procedures
Monitor greeter station on an as needed basis to make sure procedures are being
followed
Monitor schedule and greeter station to make sure shifts are being adequately
covered
Report any problems/concerns to Greeter Coordinator
Assist Greeter Coordinator as needed
Greeters
During Event Duties

Gate Station Responsibilities
Validate and collect tickets and waivers. Act as a sober liaison between the
event and law enforcement. Anyone working the gate must remain sober during
their shift.

Make sure that ticket database is loaded on laptop after ticket sales end
During Event Duties

Make sure that Gate Leads are trained in proper procedures
Monitor that Gate Leads are properly training Gate volunteers
Monitor Gate station on an as needed basis
Check with Gate Leads to make sure shifts are being adequately covered

During Event Duties
Make sure Waivers are completed when turned in
Scan and collect tickets
Act as a sober liaison between the event and law enforcement. If law enforcement
arrives stick to standard greeting and immediately radio for Event Organizer.
If re-entry with Gate Pass, verify all occupants of vehicle
have wristbands

Responsibilities
Creation, set-up, and breakdown of city infrastructure including Gate Station,
Greeter Station, Center Camp, and Ranger/Medical Station. Make sure that golf
carts are properly lit and identifiable.

Make sure infrastructure is placed in storage

Ranger Responsibilities
Rangers are non-confrontational community mediators who make rounds at the
event, investigating and mediating any issues that may arise between
camps/participants, responding to emergent situations, educating Participants
about event principals/rules, and being the eyes and ears of the community.
Ranger Coordinator
Pre-event Duties

Brief Event Organizer at least bi-weekly
Monitor Ranger shift schedule
Solicit volunteers

least 45 days prior to the event
During Event Duties
Arrange for Ranger supplies to be transported to event site
Coordinate with the Assistant Event Manager to ensure adequate radio
distribution
Fully understand the emergency operations plans
Make sure that Ranger Leads and Ranger volunteers are trained in proper
procedures
Monitor that Ranger Leads are properly supervising Ranger volunteers
Monitor Ranger station on an as needed basis
Check with Ranger Leads to make sure shifts are being adequately covered
Coordinate with Fire Safety Lead to ensure Burn Perimeters are adequately
staffed
Solicit new Rangers and volunteers for all departments
Arrange for supplies at Ranger to be secured when event is over
Post-event Duties
Arrange for supplies to be packed up and transported to designated storage (the
Coordinator may store bins at their home or at the Storm Shelter)
Email a summary of problems, concerns, successes, suggestions regarding Ranger
station to Event Manager within (30) days of the end of the event
Ranger Leads
During Event Duties
Be familiar with the emergency operations plans available at Center Camp
Make sure that Ranger volunteers are properly trained in Ranger procedures
Act as a mentor to new Rangers
Solicit new Rangers and volunteers
Be available at the Ranger Station for 15 minutes before and after shift changes
to ensure that all Rangers have checked in, and have partners.
Attempt to locate and follow up with “no shows” to educate them about honoring
their commitment to the community
Monitor Rangers on an as-needed basis to make sure procedures are being followed
Monitor schedule and Ranger station to make sure shifts are being adequately
covered
Meet with the Medical Lead of the shift to discuss any issues
Report any problems/concerns to Ranger Wrangler
Assist Ranger Wrangler as needed
Rangers
During Event Duties
Show up for your shift
Make rounds of the event venue investigating any issues and mediating as
appropriate
Verify that Participants have adequate supplies
Educate Participants about event principals/rules (parking, no ground fires, no
unauthorized burns, abide laws, etc.)
Recruit new Rangers and volunteers
Act as the eyes and ears of the community notifying the Ranger Lead of any
emergency

Theme Camp Registration Responsibilities
Manage the theme camp registration process. Work with the Event Organizer to
determine camp placement.
Theme Camp Coordinator

Brief Event Organizer at least weekly
Respond to theme camp registration emails
Work with Event Organizer to determine camp placement
Make sure that website gets updated with new theme camps as they are approved
Have updated map with legend printed for use at Greeter Station and by Camp
Placers
Solicit volunteers.
During Event Duties
Arrange for theme camp placement supplies to be transported to event site
Make sure that Theme Camp Leads are trained in proper procedures
Monitor that Theme Camp Leads are properly training Camp Placer volunteers

camps to Event Manager

During Event Duties
Make sure that Camp Placer volunteers are properly trained in placement
procedures
Monitor as needed to make sure camps are placed in the proper areas
Responsible for returning Camp Placer radios to Ranger Station when not in use
Camp Placers

Direct new arrivals to the proper camping and setup areas
Make sure that vehicles are unloaded and moved to the parking area in a timely
manner
Art Registration Responsibilities
Manage the art installation registration process. Work with the Event Organizer
to determine art placement and burn status. Work with Fire Safety to coordinate
approved burns. Assist Art Grant Committee.
Art Coordinator
Pre-event Duties

Brief Event Organizer at least weekly
Respond to art registration emails and forward any grant requests to the Art
Grant Committee
Work with Event Organizer to determine art placement and burnability
Make sure that website gets updated with new art installations that request
official placement
Work with Theme Camp Coordinator to make sure placed art installations are
included on the map
During Event Duties
Work with Camp Placers to make sure art is placed properly.
Work with Fire Safety to coordinate approved burns.
Post-event Duties
Email a summary of problems, concerns, successes, suggestions regarding art
installation to Event Manager
Web Weaver
To update our websites as needed with information provided by the Event
Coordinator, Theme Camp Coordinator, and Art Coordinator.
Fire Safety Responsibilities
This position is responsible for watching the fire, making sure that the fire
stays on a tool, or where it should be. If performers accidentally light them
selves on fire, Fire Safety are there ready to put it out quickly with a wet
towel or fire retardant material. In addition, Fire Safety maintains a safe
perimeter between fire performers or fire art and the viewing participants.
Safety personnel are required to honor sobriety while being a Fire Safety.

Solicit volunteers and arrange for adequate fire safety personnel and equipment
during effigy burns

Arrange for Fire Safety supplies to be transported to event site
Coordinate with the Assistant Event Manager to ensure adequate radio
distribution
Fully understand the emergency operations plans
Make sure that Fire Safety Leads and Volunteers are trained in proper procedures
Monitor that Fire Safety Leads are properly supervising Fire Safety volunteers
Coordinate with Fire Safety Lead to ensure Burn Perimeters are adequately

A volunteer Medical Team will be on hand to assist and triage any medical
problems or injuries 24 hours a day and emergency evacuation is available.

Medical Volunteers
During Event Duties
Provide basic medical services as needed.
In case of serious injury requiring evacuation, call 911 and then notify Event
Coordinator and Rangers.
Earth Guardian Responsibilities
Responsible for ensuring the event follows the Leave-No-Trace principal by
educating and empowering Participants, and when necessary, picking up the stuff
that has been left by others, drifted by the wind or simply forgotten. This
includes the porta-potties.
